Home Builder Houston

Houston Custom Builder Gives Good tips for New Homeowners
Houston Custom Home Builder, Whitestone Builders, have some great tips for new homeowners to consider once they move in to their new place.
September, 2010, Houston, TX:  Principal David Gordon of Houston custom builder Whitestone Builders makes it his business to work with new homeowners. After all, each Whitestone Builders home is a brand new custom built home in areas such as the Houston Heights.
The first thing a new homeowner should do is develop a maintenance check list. Be familiar with when systems need to be cleaned, filters replaced and batteries checked. Just like a new car, a new home needs to be well maintained in order to keep it functioning well, stay cost effective and retain its value.
The second thing Whitestone Builders suggest is for new homeowners to make sure they have adequate homeowner’s insurance, including flood insurance which must be purchased separately and insurance to cover the repairs to roofs and major appliances. Personal property damage insurance should generally be about 75% of the value of the home, with separate riders on furs, antiques and jewelry.
Protect the home from break-ins by re-keying the locks and reprogramming the alarm, even if the home is brand new. Although Houston custom builders such as Whitestone Builders are reputable, it never hurts to be extra cautious. Many contractors, agents and workers have had access during the building and selling of the home.
Finally, prepare an emergency kit. Have fire exit routes memorized and know where the nearest fire hydrant is. Place fire extinguishers conveniently throughout the home and know where the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are located.
Doing these four simple things will keep your new Houston custom built home safe and sound. For more information on Houston custom built homes now available, log onto  http://www.whitestonebuilders.com.

18 Effective Search Engine Optimization Techniques

18 Effective Search Engine Optimization Techniques
By Sue Cooper (c) 2010

Proper Search Engine Optimization, otherwise known as SEO, has quickly become a popular topic of conversation among website owners and entrepreneurs. The difference between having a successful website, and hosting a flop, is often the difference between whether or not you’ve incorporated proper keywords and phrases into your webpages.

Learning proper SEO techniques can seem like a daunting task, especially to those who are not familiar with the concept. The following list offers 18 simple SEO techniques you should keep in mind when developing and marketing your website.

1. Make sure your website is initially designed with your search engine optimization needs in mind. Search engines look for text, not flashy graphics and cool layouts. The trendiest web designs will mean nothing if no one is able to find your site.

2. Every page of your website should have a title tag with text describing either your site or what is on the page. Be sure the text includes SEO-type keywords instead of the name of your website. Unless you’re incredibly popular, no one is going to be looking for you by searching for your name. They’ll most likely search for a product or service and the keywords you use will lead them to your site.

3. Consider canonicalization, or whether or not your website address includes or excludes the www prefix. If you choose to use the www version of your website, make sure the non-www version directs users back to the one you use. Make sure you use your preferred version (http://www.mydomain.com or http://mydomain.com) every time you place a link to your site on the web. Don’t use both!

4. When designing your website, be sure to avoid too many drop-down menus, confusing image maps, and excessive images. If you must use any of these methods, be sure to include plenty of text links for the search engine spiders to find and identify. Without links, the search engines will not pick up your site information.

5. It does not matter what type of website extension you use (ie. .html, .htm. .asp, .php). Search engines do not look at the web extension and it will not have any impact at all on search results or ranking.

6. Every page on your website should include a link to your home page and your sitemap. Make sure every link is the same. Home page links should go directly to your domain (http://www.mydomain.com). Make sure your internal links do not include the additional /index.html or .php text as it is not needed (ie. http://www.mydomain.com/index.html).

7. Are you sharing a server with other websites? If so, you’ll want to conduct a black-list check to make sure you are not sharing a proxy with someone who has been banned by search engines in the past. Being on the same server as a website with a poor reputation may damage yours.

8. You’ll hear the same phrase over and over again: “Content is king”. It is imperative that your website have fresh, unique, and quality content that is updated on a regular basis. Be sure to include your favorite keyword phrase within the body of the content!

9. People are more likely to input a phrase instead of a single word when conducting internet searches. If your business has a physical location, incorporate the name of your city into the text as well. For example, you might use “our Philadelphia location” instead of “our location”. Including your city name will improve the chances of your site being seen in location searches.

10. If the information on your company website doesn’t change regularly, or remains static, you might want to consider starting a blog. Search engine spiders are always looking for fresh content. Use your blog as an advertising tool and link back to your website within each and every post.

11. Write naturally. The worst thing you can do is try to cram a zillion keywords into your article or blog entry, making it messy and difficult to read. Search engines are able to determine whether or not your text is logical and they will ignore content with ridiculously high keyword density.

12. Building links to your website is essential to its success. As a matter of fact, links are like the queen to complement your king’s fresh content. Choose a keyword phrase and network with other websites, asking them to place links on their pages. Don’t hurt your ranking by having non-related websites place haphazard links. While it may seem great to gather 100s of backlinks, you’re better off limiting your links to related websites. Ten relevant links stand a better chance than 100 irrelevant links.

13. Links within your website should be built with keyword phrases as well. Try to avoid using generic anchor text such as, “click here”.

14. Don’t place a list of links on your website. Always place a link within at least two to three lines of related content. The better your description, the more likely it is someone will click on the link.

15. Don’t limit your keyword or phrase to text links. You should also incorporate your keywords into your image alt tag and domain name, whether it is part of the name itself or contained within the description.

16. Try to avoid using frames, Ajax, and Flash as much as possible. None of these functions are keyword or search engine friendly and will hurt your SEO results.

17. Before your website can be found by the search engine spiders, it must be indexed. Search engines such as Google have regular submission forms, but it can take days or weeks for your form to be processed. Having a highly ranked website place a link to your site is a sure-fire way to have your site indexed quickly.

18. No matter what you hear, don’t be overly concerned with the Google PageRank of your website. A website that is properly developed and contains good content can outrank a website with higher PageRank.

Paralegal Certificate

Filed under: Legal — admin @ 10:13 pm

PARALEGAL TRAINING, Take Control of Your Decision and Understand the Facts
Paralegal students are faced with many decisions. Which program should I choose? Is it ABA Approved? How important is that anyway? Will I be “certified”? Will I get a job? So many questions can make the process very confusing. Don’t fall victim to aggressive recruiters and savvy marketing. Understanding keys terms clearly, and how they affect you, will make your choices clearer.
ABA Approval is strictly voluntary. Research has found that law firms do not always consider graduation from an ABA approved paralegal program school the most important factor in hiring a paralegal. ABA approved programs are generally 2-year programs.
·    The ABA cannot formally accredit any paralegal program, but will approve a program that meets specific standards for a designated fee.
·    ABA approved paralegal schools generally have much higher tuition fees than non-ABA approved paralegal schools.
·    No ABA approved paralegal school has a completely online or correspondence option.
·    Many non-ABA approved programs are approved by various Paralegal associations such as the NFPA and/or the NALA
·    There are more than 1,000 colleges and universities, law schools, and proprietary schools that offer formal paralegal training programs. However, only approximately 260 paralegal programs are approved by the American Bar Association.
·    Nationwide, there are a large number of paralegal programs that meet the ABA standards but do not pursue approval based on the costs associated with the process. These approval costs are often passed on to students through higher tuition costs and cutbacks in student resources at ABA approved paralegal schools.
Certificate vs. Certified
A “certificate” designates that a student has successfully completed a program. “Certified” means that a student has taken a qualifying exam to prove they have acquired the skills necessary to do a specific job. The most common exam to “certify” a paralegal or legal assistant in the United States is given by the National Association of Legal Assistants, ( NALA). The only state in the US that has specific educational requirements for paralegals is California. ( See California Business & Professions Code 6450 ) The NALA exam is strictly voluntary. Students should check to make sure the program they choose will consist of enough hours to sit for the exam if they want to have the option available to them.
Based on a survey conducted every two years by NALA, paralegals graduating from certificate programs are compensated at a higher rate than those graduating from degree programs. Attorneys know that certificate program students are trained in one thing: Specific legal assistant skills.
For-Credit, Non-Credit vs. Accredited and Financial Aid – For-credit means that coursework earns “credit hours” to be applied towards the fulfillment of a degree. Non-Credit courses are offered through college and universities continuing education or professional studies departments specifically for students who already have a degree, or have no intention of seeking one at this time. Students must be pursuing a degree and be enrolling in a “for-credit” program to qualify for Federal Financial Aid.
Accredited refers to the school itself. It means that the institution has been officially recognized as meeting the essential requirements, as of academic excellence.
The legislature is currently cracking down on for-profit colleges that use predatory enrollment practices. You know the kind, you call once for information, they call you back 60 times to convince you that – “their program is the best program for you, and, by the way don’t worry about the cost – that’s what financial aid is for”. What if you could get top-notch training without ending up in debt?
The Center for Legal Studies has been partnering with accredited colleges and universities for more than 30 years to bring students the highest quality and most affordable paralegal training in the country. Students can gain all the education and training they need to go out and get a job in a little as 6 weeks for only $1189.

The Next 10 Online Trends By Patrick Stafford (c) 2010

The Next 10 Online Trends By Patrick Stafford (c) 2010
It hasn’t ever been harder to keep up with the latest web trends – with the expansion onto mobile platforms, the growth of social media and the need for start ups to be aware of new SEO techniques.

As a result, we’ve assembled a team of web experts to help you and your business keep on top of the most important trends on the web. Constructing a mobile website, creating social media campaigns and selling online are just some of the challenges businesses will face during 2010.

Here are top online trends for the next 12 months.

Mobile Web

Every web-savvy business knows smartphone use is on the rise. But few are actively developing for mobiles by creating websites specifically used for handheld devices.

As more and more mobile users flock to gadgets with larger touchscreens and internet browsers, such as the iPhone or Google Nexus One, the mobile space will become bigger and SMEs need to get on board. If your website isn’t accessible through a smartphone or app, users will give up and go somewhere else – losing you traffic and potential sales.

Ovum analyst Nathan Burley says the number of people taking up smartphones instead of traditional handsets will require businesses to develop mobile websites.

In our view there are two big trends that will occur in 2010. That is mobile broadband and the adoption of smartphones, and the impact of those two things on the industry. This is changing the way people access the internet, and that is in mobile.

The big change is that these smartphones are allowing people to use tools in the same way a laptop did in the past, which is opening more users to the internet on the go.

Chris Thomas, chief executive of SEO firm Reseo, says 2010 will be “the year of the mobile“.

I think mobile search is definitely here. Google is throwing a lot of money at mobile, and it’s going to be really interesting to see how businesses leverage that.

Search Engine Optimization

Using search engine algorithms in order to get your site on “page one” has been a tactic used by online businesses for years. But SEO experts say the process of getting a website known will become even harder in 2010 with the rise of personalised and real-time search.

Social network Twitter sparked a trend when it designed the first popular real-time search engine. When users search for a term, the site would update that search with new “tweets” as they were being made.

Google has recently introduced a real-time search function of its own, complete with indexed tweets, while Microsoft Bing has made a deal to show tweets in search results. But Thomas says while 2010 will see a rise in real-time search traffic, businesses shouldn’t be too keen to pursue a dedicated real-time search strategy.

I think people are still trying to figure out what to do with it. Perhaps if there’s a trending topic, such as Copenhagen or climate change, that’s where we could see real-time do some work because there’s an opportuníty for someone selling solar panels to come in, using a message like “stop climate change” via solar panels or something. There is some real potential there.

This is where it could go, but it’s such an active industry, with optimisation and SEO changing. But I always say to our clients, stick to your knitting and don’t do anything silly.

Jim Stewart, chief executive of Stewart Media, says real-time search will continue to grow, but businesses need to be aware of the more subtle changes Google is making to its search algorithms.

All of the normal SEO things still apply, even though Google is going forward with things like personalised search. That will surely play a part, but you still have to get on the front page at all before you get into someone’s personal search results.

Stewart warns Google will be updating its speed-check feature, through which the engine checks how fast it takes for a user to connect to a website. If a business has any downtime, it could affect search rankings.

But Stewart also says Google could potentially lose its place as the top search engine, as users could migrate to other offerings or be wary of the company’s search power.

I don’t believe the search engine is providing as relevant results as it did this time last year. I’m sure they know it, but it doesn’t seem to be working as well. I’d also love to think that people will begin to start using Bing more and more, but it has to become a better search engine before that happens.

The other thing is privacy. A lot of people already are pretty wary of Google and privacy issues, even to the point where Eric Schmidt said if you’re doing something on the web you don’t want people to know, then maybe you shouldn’t be doing it.

Social Media

Facebook and Twitter were the standout social networks from 2009, and their popularity will surge in 2010 with both introducing new features, including paid accounts for business.

But businesses need to pay attention to the trends on these sites. Creating a social media strategy is no longer optional, it is vital to the health of a company and its ability to tap into an online user-base.

Some experts say if you aren’t engaging online, you’re missing out on a huge opportuníty to gain new customers and fans who will effectively market for you if given enough reason.

Thomas says 2010 will be the year in which businesses must jump on social media or risk being left behind by the competition.

If you don’t have a Facebook fan page you should get in, and if you’re in a community-minded space, where you can offer things like competitions and such, then you’re set.

James Griffin, founder and chief executive of online reputation management company SR7, says this year will see the rise of analysts who will begin to convince businesses to study, track and move operations into social media.

Analysts will be versed in understanding and using social media, the quantitative and qualitative reports will empower businesses to implement researched social media strategies and gather market intelligence.

Online Retail

More and more Australian businesses are selling online, but compared to the US we have a lot of catching up to do. Online spending has grown from 1% to 3% of overall spending over the last 10 years, compared to the American equivalent of 7%.

Who’s Linking to Your Web Site and What Does That Say About You to Google?

Who’s Linking to Your Web Site and What Does That Say About You to Google?
By Stone Reuning (c) 2010

Linking is the mechanism that connects all the pages on the Internet. You’ve got links throughout your web site to let people navigate their way around. You may have links going out to other web sites that you think will be useful for your visitors. And hopefully you have links coming into your web site from independent sources.

All types of links can impact your search engine optimization results, helping determine where your web site shows up online. Though the hardest to control, inbound links pointing to your site can make the biggest impact.

At its most basic, the concept is that if several high-quality sites are linking to your web site, then Google and other search engines figure your site must be a popular, valuable resource – and they will be more likely to show it higher in their search results. In effect, your site receives “link juice” from other web pages that link to it.

However, it’s not enough to secure a couple links and then sit still. The Google PageRank algorithm looks at the pattern of links to your site as they build over time.

Building the right kind of links can bring a major payoff, while a wrong turn could get you penalized – and the Google Sandbox is not easy to dig out of.

Armed with a bit of knowledge and some creativity, you can build up valuable incoming links naturally and powerfully, avoiding the traps that plague amateurs.

Spice Up Your Links With Some Variety

There are all kinds of link farming schemes to grow links, and you need to run the other way from these. This is also called reciprocal linking, where you exchange links with other web sites that will then link to you on a mass scale. Warning: Google is onto this.

While it’s perfectly advantageous to link to high-quality sites that also link to you, the key here is to cultivate a natural mix of links over time.

Is it natural to suddenly have 100 links pointing to your site, all with the same text? Of course not. When people link to you naturally, they might use your business name (SEO Advantage) or some variation on a descriptive phrase (search optimization company). If too many similar links exist, it can signal that those links were generated artificially and potentially result in penalties.

Also consider which pages on your site inbound links point to. Your home page is probably going to get the most, but it’s natural to have links pointing to specific pages inside your web site, too. Cultivate links to your services, your blog, your news pages, your articles, etc., to help those pages get indexed and build their own PageRank. Called deep links, these can help bolster your site’s overall performance.

Some links also carry a title tag, which is indicated in the source code. This is a little too technical to go into detail here, but if you can influence this you’ll want both the link text and title to vary a bit among the links pointing to your site. Once again, the key is to grow your links in a natural pattern.

Not Every Link Carries The Same Value

Links from popular, established web sites usually carry the greatest value. That’s because they have high PageRank from plenty of other people already linking to them. A link from CNN.com, for example, will carry much more weight than a link from a free press release distribution site that few people know of. Likewise, a link from www.sbdpro.com will have a greater impact than a link from a directory that uses no-follow tags.

No-follow tags are the bane of naive link builders. It’s tempting to think you can just link to pages on your site from your Twitter tweets, Facebook and other social media applications. However, many of these sites as well as online ads and also some directories employ “no follow” tags that prevent the search engines from following a link to your site. In this case, it’s as if the link doesn’t exist in the eyes of the search engines. (That doesn’t mean the links aren’t valuable to people who find you and follow the link, it’s just not helping your web site show up in Google.)

So, How Can A Business Build Incoming Links Naturally?

The mix of links created out on the web pointing back at your web site should avoid skewing toward any particular type. A good mix that you can influence may include:

• Directories – Professional organizations, online communities and forums, business directories, etc. can all potentially provide good links to your site. There are several premium directories that are staples in an SEO firm’s link building toolkit, like DMOZ.org. Keep in mind that your listing itself should be optimized in order to reap the full link juice benefits.

• Press Releases – Writing and submitting press releases online can help you get your news in front of more people and build links to your site. (Be sure to use best practices for writing and evaluate carefully your outlets for good links).

• Blogs – Link to relevant pages on your site from your blog. Build relationships online with other bloggers, too, and they may want to link back to you! Active blogs with high visibility and large followings are going to be your best bet, but you can mix it up over time targeting lesser known bloggers, too. Keep in mind that as other sites grow in PageRank, the value passed to your site will also grow.

• Create Some Link Bait – Make sure your content is so fascinating or funny that people will want to tell others about it. This is the ultimate for building naturally growing incoming links but of course hard to do.

A sample schedule could mean every month you líst your site in two good dírectories, link to interior site pages from a couple relevant posts in your blog, distribute one press release to news sites, and write one great article that other people may want to link to and then let them know about it.

A word about selecting outlets is in order, too. You’ll need to carefully assess each place you target in order to determine the link value they can pass onto you. For example, different press release submission sites and directories can give you a wide variety in link value. This can be time-consuming to determine but worth it when your site’s PageRank starts to climb. (Find some information on how to evaluate outlets in this article on press release optimization: http://bit.ly/dazx7d)

Firm Reveals That Interest Rates Remain Low…For Now
As of September 2010 long-term interest rates are still at historic lows.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/11/business/economy/11rates.html

San Antonio, TX. September 2010. Firm reveals that long-term interest rates for all types of credit remain at or near historically low levels. This presents a golden opportunity for anyone in the business of agriculture to take advantage of the increased economies of scale that can be attained by locking in a low rate on long-term real estate debt.

All agriculture based operations such as; dairies, feed yards, agribusinesses, ranches, farms and others are eligible to lock in a low fixed rate on their long-term real estate debts. New purchases are eligible as well as refinance transactions.

However, these low long-term interest rates are not here to stay. The general consensus is that the low long-term rates that are available now will be gone by the end of the year.

How much money can refinancing to a historically low interest rate save you?

EXAMPLE: Suppose you owe roughly $2 million on your agricultural real estate, and you are financed at 7.5% on a fifteen year note. If you were able to refinance to a new interest rate of 5.5% on the same fifteen year note, you would realize nearly $400,000 in savings over the life of the loan!

The additional cash-flow created through refinancing can provide a huge boost to your overall operation.

Why Not Lock In a Low Long-Term Interest Rate Today?
Achieve increased cash-flow through interest rate savings today.

Custom Built Homes Houston are Recession Proof
In a recent news report, CNBC stated that the housing market in Texas, particularly in Houston, continues to thrive. Whitestone Builders, creators of custom built homes Houston wide is proof that is true.
Houston, Texas, August, 2010:  In a recent article by the Greater Houston Builders Association,  a report from CNBC compared the Texas housing market with that of other states such as Florida and California. It found that homes in Texas continue to increase in value, especially in Houston.
According to the July, 2010 article by Wendell Cox, “One reason that Texas did so well is that it fully escaped the “housing bubble” that did so much damage in California, Florida, Arizona, Nevada and other states. ”
For those interested in purchasing one of the new custom built homes Houston has to offer, that is grand news. Whitestone Builders has continued to build and sell their luxury homes at a steady pace during the recent “economic crisis”. One reason is their attention to detail, their blending of tradition with innovation  and their stance on excellent customer service. Principal David Gordon says, “I want our homeowners to say that we provided great customer service and our homes are built to last.”
One look on their website: Custom Built Homes Houston at the Whitestone Builders completed or under construction custom built homes Houston style, proves both Principals Graham Gamble and David Gordon take their craft and their customers seriously. There is little doubt a Whitestone Builders home will continue to increase in value, not only because they build them in Houston, but because of their prestigious, awarding winning reputation for honoring historic charm without compromising on the modern conveniences a Houstonian family wants in their home.
